bound by courage, Bound By Blood

250 YEARS OF JUST DOING OUR JOB

Our History

As Marines, we take immense pride in the history of the United States Marine Corps. On November 10, 1775, the Corps was born out of a need for a dedicated fighting force to serve aboard naval vessels during the American Revolutionary War.

From the beginning, Marines have been recognized for their fierce determination and unwavering loyalty. We've fought in every major conflict, from the trenches of World War I to the Islands of the South Pacific in World War II, from the harsh terrain of Korea and the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of Iraq and mountains of Afghanistan. Training, pride, and fierce loyalty to each other have always set us apart. Semper Fidelis are not empty words. It's who we are, it's a way of life. Being a Marine means being ready to respond to any crisis, anywhere, at any time, with the same courage and commitment that has defined our Corps for nearly 250 years.

Bound By Courage, Bound By Blood

People may have approached you and thanked you for your service. It is not a service you have given. It is a sacrifice. A sacrifice is giving something of yourself you will never get back. Sacrifice is synonymous with being a Marine. Death, dismemberment, and mental are the obvious types of sacrifice.

Other sacrifices are less noticeable. Lost time and opportunities are two of them. Our families, parents, wives, children, and girlfriends have also had to sacrifice for our sacrifice. We thank you and more than the one million Marines who have made those sacrifices before us.
Thank you for your sacrifice.

Our Values

Being a Marine is defined by core values of honor, courage, and commitment.

Honor means upholding ethical and moral standards.

Courage is the strength to face fear and make tough decisions. Commitment is dedicated to the mission and fellow Marines. These values create a bond among Marines and form the foundation of who we are, more than one million Marines since 1775. The long red line.
